Why Ya’ll So Proud of Black History MONTH????

Why Ya'll So Proud of Black History MONTH????

Why is the month of February the ONLY month that recognition of attainment by African-Americans are vastly circulated? Shouldn’t we be proud and appreciate the numerous lives in our culture that succeeded in overcoming obstacles that many believed was impossible? Share stories or bring attention to the our culture EVERYDAY, make it a way of life and reflect back to how we as African-Americans got to this point in the 21st century. Embrace it, cherish it, appreciate the numerous chances ones took for us to be in a record of importance.

The contributions of African-American people was brought to the attention of American History by Dr. Carter G. Woodson. The month of February was chosen because Fredrick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln significantly influenced the African American population and their birthdays just so happen to be in February. This is what prompted Negro history week which was celebrated the 2nd week in February starting in 1926.

Thirty-four years later, knowledge of the achievements from African-Americans escalated to a month of celebration in 1960. A massive quantity of accomplishments has been gained by a slew of African-Americans since Mr. Woodson advocated awareness 88 years ago.

Maybe if more African-American history is promoted daily….whether it be t.v., social media, books, magazines…etc..the hardships that our forefathers experienced doesn’t appear in vain.
